Ami Barer described the heads up encounter with Sorel Mizzi as ‘short and sweet’ and that’s what it was. The final showdown of the Main event of the Aussie Millions saw Barer and Mizzi go heads up for the title and AUD $1.6 Million in prize money which the latter won easily. Earlier in the day, the final seven players had taken to the felt in the Crown Casino in Melbourne and the first elimination took too long to happen.
Exchanges of double ups later, it was Scott Seiver who exit in seventh spot. His short stack went down to Darren Rabinowitz. Next to hit the rail was Andrew Phaedonos who was the collective hopes of all Australians looking for an Asutralian champ. The amateur overplayed his suited Queen Jack and hit the stubborn pocket eights of Mizzi.
American Vincent Rubenias was the next to exit when he went all in against Rabinowitz’s pocket aces. Four way play again took some times before the next exit could happen. It was the wee hours that the next action pursued and this time it meant a double elimination within the blink of an eye. Rabinowitz exit in fourth place followed by Jake Balsiger. This left the Aussie Millions Main Event to an all Canadian battle.
After exchanging a few hands and some chips, Barer opened from the button and Mizzi went all in. Barer instantly called and showed his pocket aces .Mizzi was painfully short with Queen 8 and would only need a diamond flush to stay in the tournament. The board came as thus making Barer the Aussie Millions Main Event Champion.
