GPI: Joseph Cheong jumps to No.2, Mercier still at top

Joseph Cheong wins ATP Manila Millions High Rollers EventWhile Jason Mercier’s reign at the top of the Global Poker Index(GPI) Top 300 ranking, Joseph Cheong made a huge jump of 3 spots to capture the second spot. There were changes and shuffling in the top 10 fixtures as Daniel Negreanu also climbed three places to reach number three and Mike Watson moved to fourth place from last week’s seventh.

GPI , which had purchased the Hendon Mob last month each week releases list of the top 300 tournament poker players based on their own formula which takes into account a players performance over a six monthly period. In a similar manner, the top players of the year are also ranked keeping in mind two sets of six months span. While there was no change in the top 10 rankings of the Player of the Year(POY) of GPI, the Top 10 of the poker players rank had a lot of changes.

Philipp Gruissem, Marvin Rettenmaier and Ole Schemion were displaced from 2nd, 3rd and 4th spots and now occupy 7th, 6th and 5th places respectively. Bertrand Grospellier moved up one space from last week to be at 8th while Igor Kurganov slipped one place to be at 9th. Steve O’Dwyer continued to be maintain his place in the top 10.
