GPI Player of the Year: Paul Volpe still on Top; David Peters Jumps to Eighth Place

Paul_Volpe-200x300It seems that Paul Volpe will not lose his top spot in the Global Poker Index (GPI) Player of the Year list anytime soon. This week again Volpe is on the top with a good lead of points. Although he has only one money finish last week when he finished at 554 place in Event#6: $1,500, ‘’Millionaire Maker’’ at the ongoing World Series of Poker, but it hardly caused any threat to his number one position.

There has been some movement in the top ten list this week. Steven Silverman jumped one place to second position replacing German Poker pro Ole Schemion, who finished at 35th position at International Stadiums Poker Tour (ISPT) Wembley Main Event. Two other players who climbed up the ladder four places each are Igor Kurganov and Stephen O’Dwyer. Kurganov is placed himself at fourth position whereas O’Dwyer is on a very competitive seventh place.

The biggest jump of the week is made by David Peters, who was a part of Team Ivey. He made a huge leap of 151 places from his last week position. Peters who is in a prime form right now finished four times inside the Money Bubble including one final table finish at the 2013 WSOP. He was amongst the finalists in the $5,000 No Limit Hold’em 8-Handed event. After some days his 46th place finish in the $1,000 No Limit Hold’em Event and 41st place finish in $2,500 Limit Hold’em Six Handed event helped him dearly. Also he received some cash in Event#17.

Rounding up the top ten are Scott Seiver and Daniel Negreanu. They dropped three places and looks very difficult for them to improve or even retain their places in the top ten next week. Jason Mercier continued to drop and currently is placed at 21st position.
