Marvin Rettenmaier topped the recent Global Poker Index(GPI) rankings released yesterday with a total score of 3269.67. The GPI ranks players based on their performances in cash finishes in qualifying tournaments over a period of the past 36 months. Fresh off a fifth place finish at the World Poker Tour Bade, Marvin broke into the top 10 list of the best poker players of the world and dethroned Dan Smith who was placed 11 this week.

Bertrand Grospellier was second this week 2985.81 and had gained two positions from last week. Michael Mizrachi and David Sands also entered the top 10, the former gaining 2 spots and Sands gaining 3 positions. 

GPI is a ranking of the top 300 poker players of the world and is published weekly. Players are ranked based on their performances in cash positions in qualifying tournaments over 6 periods of six months. A cash position is defined as any position where in a player receives some part of the total prize money. Qualifying tournaments are tournaments with a buy-in of atleast USD 1000 and with 21 or more entries and are open to the public. An aging factor that keeps in mind the age of the tourney is also kept in mind while calculating a players GPI Rank.
