British Poker player Sam Razavi has won 2014 Asian Poker Tour (APT) Player of the Year award making it a hat-trick. Razavi was elated to win this honour and took her excitement to twitter as: “We got there! Won the side event for $11k and locked up three time b2b2b @AsianPokerTour Player Of The Year!” This POY title brings him $8,000 worth of APT buy-ins for the next year tournament events.
Razavi has proved his mettle time and again specially on the Asian poker felt with several titles and money finishes every year. In 2012, Razavi won three APT events which include the Main event of APT – Asian Series, Goa. The poker champion won his biggest live cash prize this year in ANZPT IV – Grand Final, Melbourne where he triumphed in the main event bagging $ 339,745. These titles combined with 14 money-finishes earned him 1,955.80 points which was enough to dominate the competition of POY. Nobody even challenged him in this race which is apparent from the second place finisher Martin Nilsson with mere 870.40 points.
Razavi took his game to another level of excellence in 2013 winning 5 titles and 21 money finishes in APT events throughout the year. He also played at World Series of Poker (WSOP) in 2013 at Las Vegas and finished in money in $ 1,000 No Limit Hold’em event. In 2014, Razavi didn’t slow down his good run and clinched 4 APT wins and 15 money-finishes which fetched him almost double the point of the runner-up Feng Zhao. He won a whopping PhP 1,535,000 as the first place prize in the Main Event of APT – Asian Series, Manila.
The poker master calls Philippines his home as it gives him quick access to every APT event. Razavi will certainly utilize the $8,000 worth of APT buy-ins which he has received in prize to make 2015 a grand year on the felt. And, if he could win the Player of the Year title again in the next year, it would be a record as nobody has achieved this feat to date. It would be interesting to watch how he capitalizes on 2014 winnings to steal the show next year.
