The 1st event of WSOP Asia Pacific(APAC), $1,100 No-Limit Hold’em Accumulator climaxed today at the Crown Casino in Melbourne with Luke Brabin winning the gold bracelet and AU$131,365 top prize. Piyush Gupta, the poker pro of Indian Origin finished succesfully in 8th position with AU$15,318.
Piyush continued to the final day of the event after defating a field of over 600 players with the likings of big names as Antonio Esfandiari (45th – AU$2,560), Dan Heimiller (31st – AU$3,159), Julius Colman (25th – AU$4,094), and Jeff Madsen (19th – AU$5,591). Although he took his seat on final table at the 9th position with 67,000 chips, he contended well against the top rankers in the early session of play.
After the elimination of Kahle Burns (10th – AU$9,831) and David Profaca (9th – AU$12,189) & Piyush was left to display his finest poker tactics to the remaining 7 pros. In the 19th level of play with Blinds: 4000/8000 and Ante: 1000, Piyush went all-in with 42,000 from his big blind position after a raise from Lindeblad to 16,000. With a close look, Brabin also went all-in while others folded away. Piyush was at risk with against Brabin’s at the showdown and eventually finished in 8th spot with AU$15,318. He is expected to return in the upcoming events of WSOP APAC 2014 to pursue his hunt of gold bracelet.
Brabin contiuned his high stakes till the end of the game and with Didier Guerin getting busted in the heads-up, he freezed his name in poker history with that glittering WSOP Gold Bracelet.
