WSOP and FIFA World Cup 2014: Can’t ask for a better Sporty Summers!

fifa wsop22014 Summers couldn’t bring in better entertainment for the sports lovers. The 45th Annual World Series of Poker(WSOP) kicks off from 25th May and when that climaxes on July 14th, the 2014 FIFA World Cup starts. Sports lovers and fans are in for a poker treat for two weeks and then the football extravaganza from 12 June to 13 July will keep them occupied for a month. 

We at OPN did some fact finding on these big Summer Events of WSOP and FIFA World cup and came up some intertesting numbers.

  • Trophy

WSOP: At Stake for the 2014 Summers are 65 Gold WSOP Bracelets which is the biggest prized trophy for any poker tournament. This times WSOP gives you 65 chances to win a Bracelet with 65 events on offer. Jason Arasheben, famed jewelry designer and owner of Jason of Beverly Hills and the coveted WSOP Bracelet weighs in 14 carat gold with diamons studding. The Main Event Bracelet is special with more than 160 grams of 14 Karat gold and 35 carats of high quality diamonds.

FIFA World Cup: The big prize for the winner is a FIFA World Cup trophy which is a Gold Trophy. Made of 18 carat gold with a malachite base, it depicts two human figures holding up the Earth.

  • Venue:

WSOP: The Rio All Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas is the venue for the 10th year in running. Poker is now synomyous with Las Vegas and WSOP is distinguied by Rio for a decade now. When Harrah’s purchased the Horseshoe and alongwith it the rights to WSOP, it moved to the Rio and this year in 2014 marks a decade in the same venue. 

FIFA World Cup: Brazil is the host this year for this showcase tournament of football. Previously Brazil has hosted the same in 1950. 64 matches will be played across 12 cities which have either renovated or built new stadiums to host the football extravanganza.

  • Money at Stake

WSOP: Poker and money go hand in hand. The 2014 WSOP is touted as one of the biggest ever and has a $10 M guarantee for the Main Event Winner itself. A total of $200 M was paid out as prize money in the 2013 WSOP. 

FIFA World Cup: The FIFA World Cup is expected to cost Euro 11 Billion to the host nation. The team that wins the title is expected to get Euro 35 M which is one of the biggest prizes in football. Each team that takes part in the FIFA World Cup will also share at least €8 million.

WSOP: This poker fest is expected to draw poker payers from more than 106 countries.

FIFA World Cup: This gigantic football tourney will have 32 participating nations.
