29 year old Mervin Chan of Malaysia reigned over a field of 629 poker players and won the Aussie Millions Main event. As the mega poker event concluded down under, ‘The Cat’ took home a cool AU$1.6 Million and a Chrysler 300 CC Car. The favorite of the crowd Patrick Antonius finished third and won AU$600,000.
The final table started with seven players in order of chip stacks: Jarrod Glennon, Patrick Antonius, Dan Shak, Jay Tan, David Yan, Joseph Cabret and Mervin Chan. But in the end it was the last placed who emerged victorious. Tan was the first to go when Antonius trapped him on Day 5 during the 23rd Level of play. He ended with AU$ 150,000 while next to go was David Yan who had a spell of bad luck when his pocket eights found the pocket kings of Chan. Yan won AU$220,000.
Day 6 saw Glennon and Shak exit as they won $290,000 and $400,000 respectively during Level 27. Level 28 started with three way action and officials stopped play in the early hours of the morning for 10 hours. It was in Level 29 as play started again when Chan doubled up through Antonius and entered heads up play. Heads up play didn’t last too long and Chan’s snap calling sailed him through in the third heads up hand itself.
