Biography-
Chris Ferguson, the famous American professional player doesn’t need any introduction. With his long hair and brown beard, cool mirrored sunglasses and signature cowboy hat, Chris got his nickname “Jesus” for his eccentric looks. Born and brought up in Los Angeles, his parents had a doctoral degree in mathematics. In fact, his father was a teacher of game theory and theoretical probability at UCLA.
Chris was just 10 years old when he began playing poker as a recreational activity. After completing high school, he took admission in UCLA and did Ph.D. in computer science. It was during his college time when he honed his poker skills by playing online poker on IRC poker. Meanwhile, he continued his studies and did PhD in Artificial Intelligence.
Ferguson had no plans for serious poker. In fact, he had always been a recreational poker player. It was during the 90s when he realized his love for poker actually. Soon, he started connecting himself with the poker game and developed a successful mathematical approach. Things went on; with internet and software simulations of his own design he felt an unavoidable attraction towards the game which further led to his entry in 1994 WSOP poker tournament. He went on to win 5 WSOP bracelets, his first two being in the same year in 2000.
He can often be seen as a quiet player on the poker table who always remains motionless to avoid the risk of being read by the opponents. In 2004, Chris Ferguson with his few fellow poker pros, decided to launch an online poker site which was named “Full Tilt Poker”. After many successful years, the Full Tilt bubble bust in 2011 and Ferguson was charged but he continues to deny the allegations.
Apart from this, he is a former ballroom dancing instructor and loves swing dancing. Not only this, he is also famous for his astonishing card tricks of cutting a carrot in half by flipping a playing card. The poker pro also gave a guest appearance in the famous TV show “Poker Night Live” and supplements his poker earnings by stock trading. One of his ambitions is to be a UCLA professor just like his father.
