It was an exciting end to the 2013 PaddyPower Irish Open as Ian Simpson won the main event with a cool €265,000 prize packet and also went down on his knees to win a fiancée. The total field had started at 150 players vying for the huge money.
The 8 member final table had interesting stories to contribute from all players. While Adam Fallon had to postpone his return flight to USA after he reached the final 8, Michael Farrelly was the lucky one riding his luck to second position after he had won a free seat to the main event. But at heads up stage, it barely took 3 hands to send Farrelly home and for Simpson to become double lucky.
Fallon’s flight re-scheduling didn’t prove too lucky for him since he was the first to exit the final table and cash €20,500. Tom Brady was the next to exit while Declan Connolly followed soon. Calvin Anderson, best known for his online poker tournament winnings finished in fifth place. Nasir Mohamad was doing very well with a good chip stack but it was an Ace Queen hand which proved the menace.
It was at the 3 way action stage that poker game went into zoom mode and Mark Davis ran to pocket 7’s of Simpson. Then on heads up action lasted only 3 hands before Simpson proposed to his girlfriend, Emma and also won the tournament.
