Biography
Patrik Antonius stands out amongst the regular poker players at any table. Known for his good looks, Patrik has a mixed bag of talents, Playing Pro Tennis, turning towards modelling and finally biting the poker bug. Behind the physique and good looks lies a razor sharp brain that has helped him rise meteorically through the ranks of quality poker pros.
Patrik started out playing poker at quite a young age as a 12 year old with his friends. He progressed to 5 card stud and soon started playing Omaha as well. Once of legal age, a casino visit clearly was on the cards and his first venture into the world of Texas Hold’em was quite a success when he converted USD25 into USD260 and he has been hooked to poker ever since.
His initial days were tough with some good victories and times that he went broke, losing at USD100 Omaha cash games. However, his fortune changed when he had a good year in the EPT and also managed a 2nd place table finish in the WPT when he nearly won the five diamond poker classic event in 2005. Patrik has consistent victories in both the live cash tournaments and in the online format where he has won more than USD 10 million on the sessions. His best overall tournament performance has been in the WSOP where he has made it to the money finish 14 times especially in a continuous period during 2007 to 2009.
Patrik considers fame and honour as the main motivation factors behind his game. Money does not receive as much priority and this is reflected in some of the achievements that stamped his authority over the game rather than earn him big bucks to take home. Patrik Antonius also has the claim to fame of having won a pot of USD 1,356,946 in 2009 which then was the biggest pot ever in the history of online poker.
Patrik is a member of Full Tilt Poker and is a regular player at the ‘Big game’ which is the nosebleed stakes at the Bellagio. He has also played a hand with the highest pot till then at the GSN High stakes and also stormed Poker after Dark. Another interesting aspect of Patrik’s game play is the fact that he is prolific in ‘Heads up’ and has won several games especially online. He has also issued challenges to several prominent players and has also taken up a challenge from Tom Dwan, being the first player to do so, all with his goal of honour and fame in mind.
