Poker action is heating up in Asia Pacific region this summer. After completion of GuangDong Ltd Asia Millions (GDAM) few days ago, third event of the seventh season of Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) 2013 kicked off in Macau at PokerStars Lives’ City of Dreams on Wednesday. With a buy-in of HK$ 25,000, 184 players marked their attendance on Day 1. After seven levels of 60 minutes play, only 74 players remained to see Day 2. As the day one concluded, Charles Lum of South Africa emerged as the chip leader. He is in lead with 158,500 chips.
Lum won most of his hands towards the end of the day. Chasing Lum are Matt Carter (154,100) and Nan Hong (149,300). The biggest hand of the day was won by Hong when he eliminated Ted Wang and won a huge pot of over HK$1, 00,000. His pair of Aces combined with a pair of tens on the board was good enough to send Wong home who had two pairs of ‘Royal couple’.
Some of the famous poker players which were seen on Day 1 are Jason Lee, Trung Tran, Liam O’Rourke, Nick Wong, Ivan Zalac and Raymond Wu. All these players survived the first day and will return on Day 2. Some of the unlucky players which were not being able to make it to the next level are, Team PokerStars pro Celina Lin, Ryan Hong, Michael Kannan, Oliver Speidel, Jae Kyong Sim and Sparrow Cheung.
Day 1b will start on Thursday at 3.00 PM. More than 200 players are expected to participate on Day 1b making the total numbers of participants in the APPT Macau Main Event more than 400.
