Michael Chon stayed in front as Day 1a of the ANZPT Queenstown Main Event concluded at the Skycity Casino in Queenstown, New Zealand here today. From the 40 poker players that entered the day’s play, 26 survived after five levels of play. While Chon finished with 59,375 chips, William Qiu was close behind with 59, 150 chips.
Other poker players with chip stacks of more than 50,000 included Ali Ghezelbash, Andrew Forsman, Jonathan Bredin and Matt Wakeman. Some known names like Oliver Gill, Raj Ramakrishan and Ben Richardson also remain in the competition.
Tom Grigg and Liam O’Rourke who were earlier announced Full Tilt Poker Ambassadors for ANZPT also played today but the latter got an early elimination. Grrigg made it to Day 1b and the third ambassador Jonathan Karamalikis is expected to play either in Day 1b or Day 1c.
