For the second week in a row, the GPI Rankings have seen a new poker face. While it was Marvin Rettenmaier two weeks back, Ole Schemion reigned last week and this week, it is the turn of Daniel Negreanu. For ‘kid poker’ it is a double treat as he jumped to the top of the GPI 300 as well as the GPI Player of the year(POY) race.
Each week, the Global Poker Index(GPI) releases a list of the top 300 tournament poker players in the world using a formula that takes a player’s results over six half-year periods. The GPI also ranks the top performers of the year over two six-month periods.
Riding on his exploits in the WSOP Europe last week, Negreanu is now the leader of both the GPI Rankings. Negreanu was also adjudged the WSOP Player of the year after he won the WSOP Europe High Roller event. He displaced Canadian Mike Watson for the top spot in the GPI POY race.
The GPI Top 10 also saw other changes with Shannon Shorr, Philipp Gruissem and David Peters entering and David Sands, Steven Silverman and Noah Schwartz exiting. Also gaining some GPI points were WSOP Europe Main Event winner Adrian Mateos who entered the GPI top 300 to be at No.132. Final Tabler Benny Spindler also re-entered the GPI rankings at No.141.
