If 2013 marked an extraordinary year for Daniel Negreanu in terms of GPI Rankings, then it seems the New year might change things. One week into 2014 and German Ole Schemion has already overtaken ‘Kid Poker’ in the GPI 300 to emerge the leader of the Global Poker Index Top 300 ranked poker players of the world.
Negreanu who was last week declared the GPI Player of the Decade owing to a fantastic 2013 will have something to work on now. Others closing in are third placed Philipp Gruissem and fourth placed Marvin Rettenmaier.
Each week, the Global Poker Index (GPI) releases a list of the top 300 tournament poker players in the world using a formula that takes a player’s results over six half-year periods. The GPI also ranks the top performers of the year over two six-month periods.
This week, new entrants in the top 10 of GPI Rankings include Stephen O’Dwyer, Paul Volpe and Erik Seidel. Vanessa Selbst also climbed up the ladder with her great showing in the 2014 PCA Super High Rollers event. Those exiting the top 10 include Ravi Raghavan, Jonathan Duhamel and Michael Watson.
