A victory for Paul Hockin at the Main Event Finals of the Asian Poker Tour(APT) Asian Series Cebu meant that the title went out of the Asian continent once again. The poker player from New Zealand who had started the FT in the seventh place with a weak stack of 460,000 chips overcame a huge disadvantage and finally prevailed taking the APT Cebu trophy as well as the top prize of PHP 3,235,000.
The All-In Poker Club at Cebu saw heightened activity and great enthusiasm as it was the first time in the history of the Main Event at Cebu that two female poker players made it to the final table. In fact one of them Mo Yong Wei also led the FT with a huge stack of 1,317,000 chips. The other lady brightening the felt was Bernadette Lina but none could make the final cut. Wei exit in 4th place while Lina went down in 5th place.
But in the end it was a battle of the shorter stacks as Hockin, Azusa Maeda and Ivan Zalac went into a 3 way battle. Hockin and Maeda had started the final table with less than half a million chips while Zalac started comfortably with 1,263,000 chips. Hockin who was entering the first Main event of an APT Event faced heads -up action with Maeda. The final hand saw Maeda going all in with and Hockin made the call with just . The dealer tabled which was in the New Zealander’s favour giving him his first APT title on debut. Maeda’s runner-up finish earned him PHP 1,881,000.
