Fabian Ortiz equaled the long standing record of fellow Argentinean Team PokerStars Pro Nacho Barbero by becoming the second player to win two LAPT titles. He won the Main Event of the Latin American Poker Tour(LAPT) 7 Panama leg shattering the hopes of 3 Mexicans who wished to take their first LAPT title home.
After three stops at the Bahamas, Vina del Mar (Chile) and Sao Paulo (Brazil), the most sought after Latin American poker tourney opened its doors to Panama with the Veneto Wyndham Grand Hotel & Casino playing host. Ortiz played an interesting heads up battle with Mexican Guillermo Olvera in the $1,700 Main Event where the former had a 4 to 1 advantage when play started. They played on for a long while till they decided on a deal to narrow the prize money gap. Ortiz took home $143,930 from the $826,925 prize pool created by the 550 player field.
This win marked Fabian’s second LAPT title after he had won LAPT Chile in 2009. He has had a good run this year after he collected his best live cash of $357,655 for his 17th place finish, in the $ 10,000 Main Event.
Other players who had made the final table but fell short include Mexicans Hugo Suarez and Antonio Hogaza.
