WSOP Asia Pacific 2014 crossed the halfway mark with Sam Higgs winning the coveted WSOP gold bracelet and AU$127,843 in Event 5: $5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha. Earlier, the Australian poker pro Scott Calcagno defeated his fellow countryman Nelson Maccini in Event 4: AU$1,650 No-Limit Hold’em Terminatorto clinch his 1st WSOP bracelet and a bounty of AU$61,250.
AU$1,650 No-Limit Hold’em Terminator
The final table game started with Nelson Maccini in the chip lead positionwho continued his battle till the final moments of the game but, unfortunately lost the heads-up match with the champion Scott Calcagno and managed to bag AU$37,845.Although Brandon Shack-Harris bolstered his lead position in WSOP Player of the Year race, he missed the opportunity to grab his 2nd WSOP bracelet this year when busting out at 6th position for AU$11,488. Australian poker pros dominated the final table game with all 8 positions in Top 9 except the sixth held by Harris.
$5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha
The 3-day Omaha poker event drew 80 players creating a prize pool of AU$376,000 to be distributed in the Final 8. Day 1 saw fierce contest eliminating 61 of them with Jamie Pickering in chip lead who went to finish in 4th position for AU$36,449 in the final table game on Day 3. Mike Watson presented a steady competition to the rivals and felt one spot short of the WSOP bracelet with AU$79,099. Higgs, the winner of PLO event at Aussie Millions back in January this year grabbed his 1stWSOP gold bracelet and AU$127,843 in cash prize.
In the events underway at Crown Casino Melbourne, Event 6: AU$1,650 8-Game Mix has formed its final table with yet another Australian Rory Youngleading the list with 102,300 chips. The game which started yesterday with 89 players is reduced to the Final 6 which includes the German poker pro George Danzerin 5th place looking to beat Brandon Shack-Harris in the WSOP Player of the Year Standings.
