Surprise! Surprise! This week there is a new #1 in the GPI World Ranking. Say Hello to Scott Seiver (GPI#1, +1), as he becomes the 9th player in the history of GPI to rank #1 in the World Poker Rankings. Do you know Ole Schemion (GPI#2, -1) made a history last week becoming the first player to spend 18 straight weeks at the top of the GPI World Poker Rankings?
On every Thursday, GPI (Global Poker Index) releases a list of top 300 Poker tournament players. To dwell this list of top Poker performers of the World, GPI maintains a Poker Index point system and uses special formula. Through this leader-board, GPI as well announces Player of the Year.
Schemion’s streak would have continued but his scores from last year entered the third aging period and fell below the 4,000-point mark for the first time in a long time. Now Schemion stands second in the GPI standings for the first time in 2015. The rise of Seiver to #1 has truly been a notable one. Since the beginning of 2015, he has been ranked inside the Top 10 – including six of the past seven at #2; becoming one of the most consistent players on tour.
Seiver, who is currently getting ready to play the EPT Grand Final Festival in Monte Carlo, said, “Reaching #1 is a huge honor. The GPI is a system that has always seemed to accurately portray the best players at any time, and to be #1, and to look back and understand what that means for my sustained success, is humbling.”
This new change has created a tight race for #1 as Schemion, Seiver and three-time WSOP bracelet winner Davidi Kitai (GPI#3, =) now find themselves in a dead heat. Further, the trio will all be competing in Monte Carlo this week.
