Jason Mercier (GPI#1, =) reign continues at the top of GPI Rankings now for five consecutive weeks. This is Mercier’s fourth longest streak at the top of the GPI World Poker Rankings. To refresh your memory, Mercier spent streaks of 11 and 10 straight weeks in 2012 and spent 17 weeks at the top from May to September in 2013.
On every Thursday, GPI (Global Poker Index) releases a list of top 300 Poker tournament players. To dwell this list of top Poker performers of the World, GPI maintains a Poker Index point system and uses special formula. Through this leaderboard, GPI as well announces Player of the Year.
Mercier’s recent win at the High Roller event at the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open in Florida has bought a bad news for those ranked inside GPI Top 10. The players battling to reach #1 may have to fight a tough battle against Mercier. The 500+ points earned by Mercier will replace his previous score at the WPT Seminole Poker Showdown in April where he ranked 128th. Moreover, his 2nd place finish in the High Roller event at EPT Barcelona last year is also set to enter a third aging period.
Further in this week, the GPI Player of the Year 2015 front-runner Anthony Zinno (GPI#2, +2) returns to #2 on the GPI World Poker Rankings. 2015 has been phenomenal for Zinno with a pair of WPT titles and a first WSOP gold bracelet to his credit. The rest of the World Top 10 remains intact.
This week also saw many big names moving up the charts, namely, Ryan Riess (GPI#169, +42), Jeff Gross (GPI#162, +31), Vladimir Troyanovskiy (GPI#60, +19) and Darryll Fish (GPI#217, +16).
