After 47 events since 2008, the Asian Poker Tour finally has its first female Main Event champion in Japan’s Kim Nayoung. She also won the Event #12: Deep Stack Turbo of APT played yerterday at Hotel Inter-Burgo Casino in Daegu. At the start of the Final Eight in the Main Event today, Nayoung was sixth in chips. But, with her aggressive style of play, Nayoung accumulated chips very quickly and eventually found herself heads up with Sergey Zasorin from Russia who held the chip lead since Day 1A.
At heads up play, she did not step off the gas and continued to pound the chips in until she turned the tide and had the 3:2 chip lead. All the chips went in after a three-bet then shove on the flop. Nayoung turned over 8♥ 9♦ for a flopped straight while Zasorin held a pair of tens. The turn was a 6♣ for a pair on the board and gave Zasorin a few more outs. But the river ran dry and all the chips were shipped to Nayoung.
Kim Nayoung took home the APT Daegu 2016 Main Event trophy, APT Main Event Championship Ring and the first place prize of KRW 25,800,000.
