The Global Poker League (GPL) has found a home for its first-ever Playoffs as the innovative sports-formatted League partners with Twitch, the world’s leading social video platform and community for gamers, to hold a 3-day spectacle in partnership with the live streaming pioneer live at TwitchCon 2016 in San Diego, California September 30th – October 2nd, 2016.
The climax of GPLs regular season–the League’s live Playoffs–will see the top 4 teams from each of its 2 conferences play down to four Finalists (2 from GPL Americas & 2 from GPL Eurasia) played live in front of thousands of TwitchCon’s attendees. Scott Ball, Community Development and Poker Manager at Twitch, welcomed GPL to TwitchCon officially, stating: “Over the past year, poker has quickly grown into an immensely popular category on Twitch thanks to the game’s top stars engaging our community and being embraced in return. As a testament to its appeal, we are hosting the first Global Poker League playoffs at TwitchCon 2016, where it will be presented as an e-sport thanks to the innovations it brings via a 3v3™ playing format and The Cube™, its signature stage.”
More just a spectator competition, the GPL Playoffs at TwitchCon 2016 features 3 days of fan experiences including a live demo of HoldemX™ – a Poker/ turn based strategy game hybrid from GPL’s parent company Mediarex S&E – meet and greets with GPL’s players, and some of Twitch’s most popular streamers and exhibition events between pros and fans.
