The 2017 Aussie Millions concluded with a supercharged AUD$1,150 Hyper Turbo at Crown Casino in Melbourne and it was the Finnish player Matti Konttinen who emerged as the champion after topping a field of 10 runners, who created a prize pool of AUD$104,550, with AUD$27,710 going to the winner.
Konttinen from Finland claimed his third score of the 2017 Aussie Millions and his second five-figure live cash in the series after he finished 5th in the Tournament of Champions for AUD$13,525. The player’s best live cash still remains $284,237, but he is now close to $400,000 in overall cashes.
The heads-up match happened between local player Michael Wood and Konttinen. Eventually, it was Konttinen who succeeded in beating Wood, who was one of three Aussies among the final 9. The other contenders among final 9 were Dean Blatt and Amit Shorey. Blatt got his fifth cash of the series, pushing his total up to AUD$40,000, while Shorey made his third final table, with already one 6th place and runner-up finish. The other two most accomplished players at the final table were Slovenian Casey Kastle and Kristen Bicknell. The former finished 4th for AUD$9,930, while the latter got busted in the 7th place, taking home AUD$6,795 for his efforts. Nobuaki Mitsumori finished 9th for AUD$3,660.
