After twelve days of the grueling poker action, the APT Championships Philippines 2017 series has come to an end with Vietnam’s Huu Dung Nguyen claiming the Asian Poker Tour (APT) Championships 2017 at Resorts World Manila for $91,670. The story of Nguyen is a thrilling one. He entered the final 8 as the shortest stack with just 8 big blinds. But very soon, he doubled up through Japan’s Shinobu Tanaka to stack up nicely at the final table. After Vietnam’s Tien Quyet Pham went out in 8th place and very soon Japan’s Ko Yuki hit rails in 7th place, Nguyen came again strongly and eliminated Korea’s In Chul Sin in 6th place.

After eliminating  Indian-origin Don Mishra in 5th place, it was Kim Gab Yong who led the way with nearly half the chips. Up next, the game changed and after seven costly pots to ultimate winner Nguyen, Yong hit the rails in 4th place. Very soon, Nguyen Hoang Bach also fell, leaving Nguyen and Shinobu Tanaka in the heads-up.

On the final hand of the tournament, Huu shoved with Ad-4h and Tanaka made a snap-call with Kc-Qc. The board was As-Qs-Jc-7h-9d to give Huu the coveted title. He won the APT Championships trophy, the APT Championship Ring, and the whopping $91,670 in the first place prize money.
