The Global Poker League (GPL) is set to foray into Indian poker market, as the league has partnered with India’s largest talent management agency, Kwan Entertainment.
As a December 18 press release outlines about this partnership, the two companies will work together to bring both the game of poker and e-sports to the Indian masses.
“For us, creating a fused sports, e-sports and gaming entertainment platform in India is a singular priority. We want to keep up with the country’s appetite for this type of entertainment and serve this audience’s needs,” CEO of Mediarex Alex Dreyfus said.
For those who don’t know about Mediarex Alex Dreyfus, it is a company founded by Alex Dreyfus to sportify poker via Global Poker League (GPL). On the other hand, Kwan Entertainment is India’s largest talent management agency that represents some biggest celebrities, artists and sportsmen, including the Bollywood A-listers like Ranbir Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan, Sushant Singh Rajput, Tiger Shroff, Deepika Padukone, Sonam Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor, Jacqueline Fernandez, Kriti Sanon, Mahesh Babu, Rana Dagubatti, and Shruti Haasan along with the popular music artists like Pritam, Kanika Kapoor and Tanishk Bagchi. In sports,Kwan represents Sania Mirza, Dinesh Karthik and Mumbai City Football Club, ( FC) to name a few.
About this new partnership, Indranil Das Blah, Managing Partner at Kwan Entertainment, said, “The Indian market is going digital at an astonishingly rapid pace and e-sports is not far behind. This is a great idea with a lot of potential and we’re excited to see how it develops through this partnership.”
The GPL is set to debut very soon in India with six city-based franchises which include:
- Ahmedabad Alphas (captain – Abhishek Rathod)
- Bengaluru Hackers (Captain – Vidwath Shetty)
- Chennai Sharks (captain – Vikram Kumar)
- Delhi Diehards (captain – Muskan Sethi)
- Kolkata Creators (captain – Aditya Agarwal)
- Mumbai Jetsetters (captain – Kavin Shah).
Team captains has been chosen based on their poker accomplishments, while India’s two-time WSOP bracelet winner Nipun Java has been announced as the League`s International Ambassador.
