Poker Sports League (PSL)-India’s biggest poker league continues doing something new and different to promote and establish poker as a mind sport in India and the league has recently partnered with the parent company of Discovery Channel to broadcast the first-ever poker event on Indian TV.
The PSL, which pioneered the team poker concept in India, has been in big headlines this year especially for the announcement of 4 more teams and increased prizepool for PSL Season 2. The excitement now sours higher with the league making the announcement of broadcasting the PSL action on DSPORT, a sports TV channel of the Discovery Communications India.
The PSL is looking forward to capitalizing on a strong online following. During Season1, the final showdown between Delhi Panthers and Mumbai Anchors drew over 4 million views on its Facebook. In an exciting battle between Delhi Panthers and Mumbai Anchors at Deltin Royale in Goa, it was the Delhi Panthers that captured the first PSL title for $225,000 in prize money.
After an overwhelming response from its online viewers, the PSL has now partnered with DSport, a promising start-up sports TV channel to broadcast the action from PSL Season 2 to be played in the later half of the year 2018 at India’s most luxurious floating casino- Deltin Royale in Goa.
“PSL’s biggest challenge has been to overcome preconceived notions & change people’s perception with regards to Poker. Hence, our positioning has been clear from the very start & this will further get established by getting the league broadcasted on a sports channel. DSPORT’s wide coverage of international sporting properties made it the natural choice,” said Amit Burman, co-founder of PSL.
Talking about this collaboration, the head of DSport-TS Panesar said, “Poker is broadcast on sports channels across the globe since 1978. In India, this will be a first & considering that PSL is the world’s first franchise based poker league, we are excited to partner with them. The PSL team is committed to creating an excellent broadcast friendly show – to reach out to sport lovers across the subcontinent & make this an exceptional experience for them.”
The live and online qualifiers for the much anticipated Season 2 of PSL have already kicked off. The live qualifiers will conclude on 11th March, while online qualifiers are set to continue until 18th March 2018.
