The 2018 European Poker Tour (EPT) Barcelona €5,300 Main Event drew a record-breaking field with a total of 1,931 entries over two starting flights. After an exciting action, Day 2 of the event is done and dusted. There are only 259 players remaining to battle it out for the top prize of €1,611,500, out of the total prizepool of the massive €9,365,350, which is to be shared by the top 296 players.
From Team India, five players had made it to day 2 of the event, namely, Muskan Sethi (51,200), Samay Parikh (51,200), Charu Vikram Kaushik (46,600), Abhinav Iyer (44,000) and Kunal Punjwani (32,000). Punjwani ran well on Day 2 chipping up nicely and keeping the momentum. He also knocked out poker icon, Daniel Negreanu. Punjwani holding King and Nine of clubs hit a flush against Negreanu’s As-10c. The player finally concluded Day 2 with a decent stack of 232,000.
Four other Indians, Muskan Sethi, Abhinav Iyer, Samay Parikh and Charu Vikram Kaushik, who had moved into Day 2 from the Day 1B flight, exited the tournament just short of the money.
Moving into Day 3 of the Main Event, the former EPT Berlin Main Event winner, Ben Wilinofsky (850,000) from Canada, who holds a whopping $1,401,785 in total live earnings, has emerged as the overall chip leader among the remaining 259 players. Following him are are David Petrzelka (771,000), Almedin Imsirovic (723,000), Michal Lubas (712,000) and Tony Broekhof (703,500). The bubble burst on Guillaume Diaz, who went out in 297th place, one shy of the €8,150 min-cash.
Many notables have entered Day 3, including Dominik Panka (603,000), Mark Radoja (511,000), Ben Heath (476,000), Shaun Deeb (363,000), Taylor Black (313,000), Niall Farrell (220,000), Alexandre Reard (216,500), Seth Davies (198,000), Jaime Staples (196,000), 2017 PokerStars Championship Barcelona winner Sebastian Sorensson (84,000), Patrik Antonius (310,000) and Viktor Blom (50,000).
Some prominent players, who managed to reach ITM stage despite being eliminated, include Aymon Hata (260th for €8,900), Fabrice Maltez (264th for €8,150), Richard Kirsch (268th for €8,150), Benny Glaser (275th for €8,150), Aarom Lim (282nd for €8,150) and Heidi May (293rd for €8,150).
