Mukunda Dasharathy emerged victorious in the INR 30 Lac GTD Mega Suits on adda52.com. Dasharathy, who plays under ‘Kakeguri’ on the poker site, outlasted a strong field of 604 entries (353 unique +251 re-entries) this past Sunday to take home the top prize of INR 800,300 for his win.
Hailing from Bangalore, Dasharathy has been playing on adda52.com for several years and has cashed out across several online tournaments. However, the Mega Suits win is his biggest score, which he achieved after beating Ravindra Arikeri aka ‘Vickyarikeri’ in the heads-up battle.
On his way to the grand victory in this tournament, Dasharathy defeated a tough final table that featured the likes of ‘arjan30’ (3rd for INR 3,32,200), Tarun Goyal aka ‘aggtarun’ (7th for INR 9,0600), and the latest Godfather 5.0 runner-up – Laksh Pal Singh aka ‘BoomTilt23’ (8th for INR 75,500). The player reached heads-up with Ravindra Arikeri aka ‘Vickyarikeri’, who battled it hard but could not go all the way, eventually finishing runner-up for an impressive INR 4,59,040 in the prizemoney.
The last hand of the tournament came with blinds running 45,000-90,000-7500. The eventual winner and the big stack ‘Kakeguri’ holding Qc 6d moved all-in for 7573066 and ‘Vickyarikeri’ having Ac 9c called all-in. The board ran out 8d 10s 10c 6h 4d, giving ‘Kakeguri’ the pot as well as the title.
As mentioned above, the INR 5,500 buy-in Mega Suits drew a total of 604 entries to comfortably crush the specified guarantee and create a 30 Lac + prizepool. Some notable players who made money in this event included Sajal Gupta aka ‘sa_jal’ (10th for INR 45,300), Manesh Rathod aka ‘TEAMfromHELL’ (26th for INR 18,120) and Dhaval Mudgal ‘dirtyzoso’ (37th for INR 13,590).
Dasharathy has been playing live poker since a pretty long time. The player has been regular at the tournaments happening in Goa. While he has cashed out across several tournaments, some of his notables live scores include the 5th place finish in the Six Max High Roller of PokerGuru Tour Season 2 – July 2012 and the 2015 IPC (India Poker Championship) Warm-Up win, which is by far his biggest live score. This year, he grabbed attention for making an ITM Finish in the HK$ 4,500 + 500 NLH at the Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) in Macau and final-tabling the DPT July Main Event.
After his grand win in Mega Suits, we caught up with Dasharathy and here are the excerpts:
OPN: Hi, a big congratulation on winning Mega Suits? How does it feel to win this event?
Dasharathy: Thanks! It feels great to win such a big event. To be honest, the tournament structure was really good. This is my biggest score on adda52.com.
OPN: How tough was the field? Could you share your tournament journey?
Dasharathy: I think, I was fortunate with the table distribution in the early stages of the tournament. I was able to build up my stack consistently without taking any undue risk, just by playing solid. I was lucky to survive against AA one hand with my QQ hitting a flush. Immediately after the bubble, I was able to move into the chip leader position by winning a couple of big hands . From there on, there was no looking back. I remained the chip leader almost till the end.
OPN: Any special moment or hand you want to share with our readers?
Dasharathy: Pocket 10s worked out pretty well for me on two occasions, it held against over cards and got me big pots. Also at a crucial time against AA, my QQ hit a single card flush .
OPN: What are your plans in live and online poker this year?
Dasharathy: As far as live poker is concerned, I have started venturing out of the country in the recent past. Although I have not won anything of significance, it has been a great learning experience .
Online Poker is becoming livelier with a couple of new entrants coming in. I personally don’t play online daily, I do end up playing 2-3 feature events of the day per week . On Sundays however, I play the major tournaments , personally I am not comfortable playing more than 2 screens at a time . So, I have to choose the tournaments across the 4 big sites.
OPN: WPT India 2018 is just 2 weeks away! How excited are you? What are your plans and preparations for the big event?
Dasharathy: I am a regular at the GOA tournaments. I am really excited to participate in the WPT India 2018 in Goa. I am planning to play the Superstack, Big Bounty and the Main Event in the series. I have to still do my bookings, thinking of playing a few satellites online before heading out to Goa.
OPN: Who are your favourite players to win WPT India ME this year?
Dasharathy: I have a lot of good friends playing the WPT India Main Event 2018 and I hope they all do well, top of this list are Vidwath Shetty and Aditya Sushant.
OPN: Finally, what would you say to players attending WPT India for the first time?
Dasharathy: The poker community is growing rapidly in India, newbies should not look at the instant success. They should be ready to put in long hours and work on the game continuously. Also, they need to learn the discipline to manage their bankroll . To be successful in the long run, you need to be patient and keep improving on your game .
