The game has been constantly growing in the country and hence it have seen a lot of female players hitting the felts. Yes, a lot of women in India have started playing poker to showcase their skills, win and make money.
While there are many female players in India who have been doing pretty well, we have picked up only top five players – Nikita Luther, Minissha Lamba, Muskan Sethi, Amrita Sethi and Babita Agarwal. They all have been impressive putting up decent scores and climbing up the 2018 GPI Ladies Player of the Year (POY) race. Here is a look into why they rank high in GPI India Ladies POY:
1 # Nikita Luther – 525.74 Points
Holding 525.74 points, Adda52 Team Pro – Nikita Luther ranks 1st in the GPI India Ladies POY 2018. A foodie, a traveller, and an inspiration for Indian females, Luther is currently the top female player in India. She has racked up $207,940 in live earnings and is ranked 18th in India’s All Time Money List. She created big waves this year when she, along with Giuseppe Pantaleo, won the WSOP Tag Team Event to claim her career-best $87,902 and become the first Indian lady to win a WSOP bracelet.
It has been all the way a big year for the Delhi girl as she managed to notch up 4 cashes at the WSOP alone, with her best scores being $18,495 for a 17th place finish in the $3000 NLH Event and $87,902 for her 1st place finish in the Tag Team Event. Her most recent cash included $5,817, which she got by finishing 11th in the recently-concluded APT Vietnam Main Event, Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh.
2 # Minissha Lamba – 505.76 Points
Ranking 2nd in the GPI India Ladies POY 2018 is none other than Adda52 Celebrity Pro – Minissha Lamba who currently holds a total of 505.76 points on the leaderboard. Starting with a10th place live cash at the 2011 India Poker Championship, Goa, the Delhi girl has posted some solid scores this year. Currently ranking 68th in India’s All Time Money with $69,340 in total live earnings, she started the year with a 2nd place in the DPT Colossus 50K Warm-Up for $8,573 and a 3rd place finish for her second best score of the year – $21,466 in the DPT Colossus Super High Roller (April). The July month saw her finishing 14th in the DPT July High Roller for $3,110. Finally, she ended the year in style by finishing 2nd in the WPT India High Roller to claim her best live score $33,058 (INR 23,63,000).
Known for her amazing performance in various Bollywood films, Lamba wanted to be a journalist, but her beauty and talent took her to Bollywood. She picked the skill of playing poker after some friends came from abroad and explained the game to her around 7-8 years ago. The Delhi girl learned the game quickly and developed a passion for it. Since then, she has been doing pretty well in poker. 2018 was her break-out year as she went on to notch up several scores at the DPT & WPT.
3# Muskan Sethi – 276.88 Points
Ranking 3rd in the GPI India Ladies POY 2018 is none other than India’s first female poker player – Muskan Sethi, who was honored early this year by India’s President – Ram Nath Kovind for being pioneer female pro. The Delhi girl, who started her journey by playing Zinga Poker, has been taking part in the various domestic and international poker tournaments. Currently ranking 78th in India’s All Time Money List with $55,044 in live earnings, Sethi got her best live cash last year in February when she finished 8th for $13,107 in the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour Main Event. So far this year, she secured her best score by finishing 5th for $6,682 (INR 4,27,600) in the 2018 DPT February High Roller in Goa. Her most recent cashes include $2,242 for a 453rd finish in The Closer at the 2018 WSOP and $1,343 for a 44th place finish in $500 + 50 NLH Event at the The Wynn Summer Classic, Las Vegas.
An inspiring poker player and a social worker, Sethi has been playing poker since the age of 12. However, it was around 5 years ago when she took up poker professionally and started playing big live poker tournaments, such as the WSOP, WPT, EPT and Deltin Poker Tournament (DPT).
4# Amrita Sethi – 147.55 Points
A model, a fashion designer and a poker player, Amrita Sethi wears many hats. A focused and very attentive poker player, she started playing tournaments and cash games around 2 years ago and the journey has been good so far. Ranking 4th in the GPI India Ladies POY 2018, she holds $11,640 in live earnings. Her best live cash $ 7,767 came just this year when she finished 6th in DPT July High Roller.
5# Babita Agarwal – 95.59 Points
Sitting at 5th among the top female players in the GPI India Ladies POY 2018 is Babita Agarwal with 95.59 points. In February this year, she took part in the Deltin Poker Tournament (DPT) series and posted a decent score in the DPT High Roller where she finished 6th for $5,693 (INR 3,64,300).
