The major Asian poker brand – Asian Poker Tour (APT) has been delivering first-class live poker experience at various destinations in Asia. Currently, the APT is busy hosting the 2019 APT Taiwan.
The series kicked off on February 20 and will continue till March 3. Headlining the series was the Main Event that drew 523 entries across the three starting flights. After a six-day run, it was Hong Kong’s Chow Cliff who emerged as the winner to take down the title for a hefty TWD 2,443,800.
The final table started with James Jagger leading the final 9. Following him in chips were Chow Cliff and Co Chung Chuen. Although Jagger started the FT as the chip leader, Cliff gained the momentum very quickly. He played aggressively and went on to eliminate six of the final 9 players. In heads-up, he beat the well-known pro Alan King Lun Lau. Both players agreed to a heads-up deal with Cliff taking home TWD 2,443,800 (INR 56,38,406) and the runner-up Luu settling for TWD 2,800,000.
The turning point of the heads-up came when Cliff won a huge double up. The final hand of the event saw both players shove all-in, Lau with Ac 8h and Cliff with Ad 5s. The board ran out 5d 10s Qd 9s 4s where Cliff clipped a pair on the flop to take down the coveted title and the APT trophy.
It was the maiden live poker title for Cliff and and he was very happy about it. “It’s a dream winning this event! I’ve played tournaments for years but this is my biggest score. I made many mistakes so I’m lucky. Coming into heads up against King Lun, you don’t expect to win” Cliff said.
