The 2019 Bay 101 Shooting Star $5,200 NLH main event drew a strong field of 440 entries to generate a prize pool of $2,156,000. After 4-days of intense battles, it was the Indian-origin Sandeep Pulusani who won the coveted title for $354,400 in top prizemoney. This was the second largest score of Pulusani’s career, after his 2013 WSOP $3,000 NLH event win for $592,684. The Huntsville, Alabama player has now taken his lifetime live tournament earnings to over whopping $1.2 million.
The final day of the main event saw five players return to battle it out for the coveted title, with WSOP bracelet winner Loni Harwood holding the chip lead when action resumed for the final day.
2017 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open high roller winner John Andress was the first to exit, losing the majority of his stack to WSOP bracelet winner and WPT champion Ryan Tosoc. Harwood was the next player to exit. She shoved all-in with Kc Qd and was called by Tosoc with 8c 8d. The board ran 10s 9s 6h Ks 7c where the latter made a straight to win the pot and bust Harwood in 4th place.
Later, the day saw Dan Shak shove his Kh Jh on the Ks Qh 5h flop. Ryan Tosco called with Kd Qs for top two pair. The turn 9h and Jd on the river were no help and Shak got eliminated in third place.
After eliminating Shak in third place, Tosoc entered heads-up play with a 2-to-1 chip advantage over Pulusani. The final two eventually struck a deal after some time. After the deal was made, Pulusani picked up pocket kings to double up against Tosoc. On the final hand, the two shoved all-in preflop with Tosoc holding Ah 9c and Pulusani Ac As. The flop ran Ad Qh 2s to give Pulusani top set. The turn and river bricked ending Tosoc’s journey. He was eliminated in second place for $336,500.
