Raag Fernandes Denies Nishant Sharma Godfather 8.0 Win

Yesterday being a Thursday night, it was yet again time for the 20 Lac GTD Godfather, an INR 5,500 buy-in tournament on India’s largest poker site – adda52.com. The flagship event drew a strong field with 480 entries to easily surpass the guarantee and generate a massive INR 24 Lac in the total prizepool. Out of this giant amount, the top 49 places were paid out with a min-cash of INR 13,200.

Yesterday’s Godfather 8.0 started at the usual time of 8 pm and ended after a long grind of over 8 hours. In the end, it was Bangalore’s Raag Fernandes aka ‘fernz666’ who emerged as the eventual winner to take home an impressive INR 5,88,000 and a seat to the 9 Lac Vegas Package SNG to be played on Adda52 on 5^th May 2019. In heads-up, Raag faced the 2018 WSOP best finisher Nishant Sharma aka  ‘DoJingBULLETS’ who eventually settled for INR 3,48,000 for his runner-up finish.

Predominantly a cash game player, Raag has recently notched up several online scores playing on adda52.com. Some of his notable scores in 2019 include a final table finish in Whale 6-Max, a win Blaze, again a final table finish in Go Vegas and cash-outs in Mega Suits, Maverick and other events. This win was the 2^nd FT finish of the week for Raag as he had also finished 4^th in Blaze this week.

The final table of the event was star-studded with Nishant Sharma (runner-up), King0fMerge (4^th for INR 1,80,000), Jasven Saigal aka ‘bajateraho’ (5^th for INR 1,20,000) and Adda52 Team Pro Nikita Luther who finished 8^th for INR 5,40,00. Harsh Dembla aka ‘dembla’ also made it to FT and finished 7^th for INR 66K. Akshay Nasa aka ‘vibaks’ narrowly missed the FT finishing 10^th for INR 30k.

Post his grand win, Raag said,“Being predominantly an Omaha cash game player, I must admit that it is a fantastic feeling to take down one of the weekly biggies, the Godfather. This win and a few smaller ones in the previous weeks have really motivated me to start understanding MTTs at a deeper level.” 

Talking about the field and his FT journey, he said, “Godfather generally attracts a large field mixed with rookies and the most competent players around, and this week was no different. My journey at the final table was definitely an interesting one. I started with the shortest stack (around 10 bigs) and was fortunate enough to find the winning side of 2 flips early on. Later, I proceeded to get a huge gift from the chip leader, and then there was no looking back from there. Heads-up was a little tricky and I relinquished the chip lead more than once, however, stuck to my strategy and managed to close.”
