The poker champion Abhishek Goindi doesn’t need any formal introduction. At the age of just 17 when most of his classmates were watching ‘Pokemon’, this talented pro was busy honing his skills in poker. Goindi is one of the earliest pros in India with a whopping $291,687 in total live cashes till date. Currently, he is ranked among the top 12 on ‘India All Time Money List’.
A graduate from Christ College, Bangalore, Goindi is one of the most skilled players on the live scene. He has tons of scores in his name. He has won several prestigious tournaments in India and abroad. The talented pro from Bangalore has made several runner-up and FT finishes in both live and online tournaments. Over the years, he has gained a lot of respect in the domestic as well as the international circuit with his humble and helpful nature and he is a great advisor to many.
Goindi won his first-ever Indian Player of the Year (IPOY) award in 2011 and since then there has been no looking back. He has been consistently performing and his consistency can be judged by the fact that he finished in the money more than 10 times in the IPC. This was probably the highest number of ITM finishes ever for any player in the IPC. He was the only Indian player to have finished runner-up in the 2012 MPC Red Dragon Main Event where he earned $136,245, his best live cash.
Goindi is also known for his High Roller scores, both in India and abroad. Recently, he won Adda52 65K High Roller at the DPT February 2019 for INR 14,50,000. However, his biggest High Roller cash came when he won the ₱ 100,000 + 8,000 buy-in High Roller for $39,773 at the APT Manila in 2012. The same year, he had won the INR 1 Lac buy-in Indian Poker legend tournament for INR 16 Lac, apart from finishing 2nd runner-up in the 50K buy-in 6-Max High Roller of PokerGuru Season 2.
Keeping the start of DPT Colossus Super High Roller series in mind, we got in touch with Goindi to get some valuable tips for you to do well at the DPT Super High Rollers at the Deltin Royale in Goa.
1)- Be patient. Patience plays a very important role in poker and especially in high-rollers where the structures are usually good and enable enough room to play. Be patient while picking spots too.
2)- Exploit tendencies and pick up on live reads and have a good table presence. This is a part of the game that is very crucial in live poker. Tells are not 100% accurate. However, they are a great indicator and give crucial information during a hand. A lot of online players are not very good at maintaining composure and having a good table presence. Having a good table presence is very important in live poker.
3)- Mix-up your strategy depending on stack sizes and dynamics. Stack sizes play a key role in tournament poker! You must always be aware of your stack size and your opponents stack size and pick the optimal strategy accordingly. You should be able to adjust your strategy accordingly on the table .
4)- Be wary of your perceived image against each opponent as mostly highrollers will have reggy fields and they are all thinking players. It is crucial to realize what level they are thinking on.You need to play only one level ahead, because if you are two levels ahead, you are actually one level behind!
