Robert Mitchell has won Event #37: $800 no-limit hold’em deepstack of the 2019 WSOP after outlasting a field of 2,808 entries to earn his first WSOP gold bracelet and the top prize of $297,537.
“Obviously, the money is surreal, but that’s what poker players play for – the bracelet. To have one now on my resumé feels good and it gives me more validation as a poker player,” said Mitchell.
Mitchell entered the final day of this event as 12th in chips with 26 players remaining. By the time, the field came down to just 8 players, he was the overall chip leader. His first elimination at the FT came when he called the three-bet shove of Axel Hallay with Ac Kh against As Jd. The board ran out Ad 3S 3H 2s Qc and Mitchell’s king kicker won the pot. Hallay earned $134,817 for his 3rd place.
After busting Hallay, Mitchell entered heads-up with Marco Bognanni. He held 72,500,000 to 39,900,000 of Bognanni. The dual lasted for about 26 hands before the final hand arrived. On the final hand, Bognanni raised to 3,000,000 and Mitchell re-reaised to 10,000,000. Bognanni four-bet all in for 53,000,000 and Mitchell called with As Ah against 3h 3d of Bognanni. The board helped neither and Mitchell’s pocket aces won him the title. Bognanni earned $183,742 as runner-up.
Team India
Indians turned up in good numbers. While there were six Indians who made it to Day 2, only three of them could score ITM finishes and the rest of them exited empty-handed. Adda52 Team Pro Kunal Patni ran deepest among Indians, finishing 165th for $1,778. The two other challengers to finish in the money were Gokul Parvathaneni (304th for $1,422) and Nishant Sharma (349th for $1,292). Adda52 Team Pro Tarun Goyal, Paawan Bansal and Rajat Jain exited the tournament empty-handed.
