Jorden Fox emerged victorious in the 2019 WSOP $1,000 Double Stack NLH event after outlasting a huge field of 3,253 entries to capture his first bracelet and the top prize of $420,693. With this win, the 32-year-old poker pro took his total live poker tournament earnings to a whopping $823,863.
“It’s the most amazing thing. I’m about to have a baby next month. I was only here to play three tournaments and this was the third one. I took 27th in the Main Event last year, which I thought was the best run ever, but this one was amazing,” said Fox after his grand win in the bracelet event.
Fox entered the final day as the chip leader with 11 remaining. He scored his first knockout with As 8c by calling an all-in from Andrew Glauberg (8th place) who held Qc 10d and failed to improve.
Thereafter, Jayachandra Gangaiah then scored two knockouts to overtake the chip lead into 4-handed action. Soon, he completed hat-trick by busting Simon Legat in fourth place ($142,648).
Fox had lost some chips as play got short-handed. However, he came back strongly and surged ahead as a result of a lucky board. He shoved with Ac Qs against As Kh of WSOP bracelet winner Jeffrey Smith. The board ran out Qc 6s 4h Qd 6d, which gave Fox a full house to take down the pot and double-up. With that, Fox took the chip lead once again and Smith became shorter in chips.
A few hands later, Smith shoved with Qs Qc and was called by Fox with Ad Kd. The latter flopped an ace and held up to eliminate Smith in third place ($191,789) and take nearly a 10-to-1 chip lead into heads-up play against Gangaiah, who managed to secure two double-ups but couldn’t close it.
On the last hand of the tournament, Fox shoved with Ad 4c for 20 million and Gangaiah called with 2c 2d. The board came down Ac Js 5h Jc 4d where Fox got two pairs with Aces and Jacks to lock up the title. Gangaiah finished runner and eventually had to settle for $259,834 as 2nd place prize.
Team India
The event #22: $1,000 Double Stack NLH event saw many Indians join the action but only 3 of our pros could make Day 2, namely Paawan Bansal (612,000), Sriharsha Doddapaneni (493,000) and Romit Advani (294,000). Doddapaneni ran deepest among the three Indians and finished 52nd for $7,582. Bansal exited in 79th place for $4,385, while Advani finished 103rd for $2,742.
