After the APT Vietnam Main Event crowned its champion in Zhou Jiaping a couple of days ago, the focus has shifted to the second biggest attraction – VND 6 Billion GTD Championships Event. A total of 60 entries (47 unique and 13 re-entries) were registered on its Day 1A yesterday, with just 25 surviving and advancing to Day 2. Among the survivors, there are five Indians, namely Laksh Pal Singh, Manoj Pentakota, Ashish Munot, Vaibhav Sharma and Manish Lakhotia.
Laksh Pal Singh (166,800) emerged the chip leader among the five Indians and he is the 6th biggest stack among the Day 1A survivors. India’s Manoj Pentakota who had finished 12th in the ongoing series Main Event ended the day with a decent stack of 146,400. The other three Indians to advance to Day 2 were Ashish Munot (107,000), Vaibhav Sharma (99,800 ) and Manish Lakhotia (57,500).
Bagging the largest stack at the end of the day was Filipino pro Joseph Talamayan, and he amassed a stack of 562,500 (375 big blinds). Choi Yun Lam Kevin (183,600) and Soo Jo Kim (169,400) ended the day as second and third in chips. Some notables to progress were Huu Dung Nquyen (80,600), Punnat Punsri (60,900) and the ongoing APT series Main Event champion Zhou Jiaping (102,800).
Today will see the last starting flight of event – Day 1B, which means the remaining 25 players from Day 1A will have a day’s break before returning for Day 2 to be played on Friday, July 12. Several Indians are expected to join Day 1B of the Championships Event today, July 11, including Gaurav Sood who had finished runner-up to Hiruma Shinosuke in the PLO Hi side event for INR 3.25 Lac.
