The European Poker Tour (EPT) Barcelona kicked off on 20th August this week and will be running all the way till 1st September 2019. The series features several marquee events though, one of the most popular tournaments on its schedule is the €1,100 EPT National. Yesterday saw Day 1A of the event and a total of 1,240 entries were registered for the first flight. Following 17 levels of play, the day ended with only 185 players surviving. Dejan Jakovljevic from Netherlands emerged as the chip leader with a stack of 915,000. Following him in second place was Alen Alencar (830,000).
Day 1A of the ongoing tournament saw several Indians in attendance including Joey Saha, Bharath Janardhan, Kavin Shah, Kartik Ved, Sahil Chutani and others. Only Saha and Janardhan among them managed to survive the day and made it to Day 2. Saha bagged a stack of 556,000 chips and rounded-up top 5 stacks, while Bharath Janardhan took forward a stack of 114k chips to Day 2.
Saha is known for his exploits on the online felts though, he is earning a name for him in live poker as well. He started the year 2019 in style by finishing 4th in the DPT High Roller event in February and later followed that score by notching up a 9th place finish in the 888poker Barcelona Main Event. Now he will be looking for another big score in the ongoing €1,100 EPT National Barcelona event.
Another Indian player in contention is Janardhan. Again, he is a very talented poker player with several deep finishes in domestic and international tournaments. The player has already run deep in the DPT April 2017 High Roller and several WSOP Europe events held in 2018. Now, he will be looking for his first score in the European Poker Tour (EPT) Barcelona poker series.
