Stephen Chidwick outlasted a field of 44 entries to take down the 2019 European Poker Tour (EPT) Prague €50,000 buy-in NLH High Roller event. The 30-year-old pro from the UK earned €725,710 for his grand victory. This was his fifth title and 21st final table score of 2019. With this win, he took his total live earnings to over $33.3 million and moved into 7th place on poker’s all time money list.
The final day play began with Adrian Mateos in the lead and Chidwick was third in chips among the final 6 players. Ben Heath was the first player to hit the rail after his AQ lost to pocket sevens of Thorel.Chidwick took the lead during five handed play after winning a key pot with a full house against the turned straight of Thorel who was eventually eliminated in 5th place after losing with QJ against K10 of Steve O’Dwyer. Despite busting Thorel, O’Dwyer was the next player to be knocked out. He shoved all-in with pocket eights against pocket aces of Chidwick and got busted in 4th place.
Adrian Mateos was looking for back-to-back titles but his run ended in 3rd place after his A10 lost to QJ of Chidwik who took a sizable lead into heads-up play after winning the coveted hand.
In heads-up, Chidwick began with 9.4 Million against Bertrand Grospellier’s 1.6 Million chips. Grospellier played well and was able to catch up but Chidwick took down a big pot to reclaim his lead and eventually win the title. The final hand of the tournament saw Chidwick raising to 200,000 with the Qs 10s and Grospellier moved all in for 2,375,000 with Ad Kh. Chidwick called and the board ran out Jh 5s 2h 10c 9h, giving the coveted pot as well as the title to Chidwick.
