Indians are making their presence felt at the 2020 WSOP Online. While India’s ‘Mandovi’ outlasted a massive field of 2,207 entries in Event#64 to become the fourth Indian to win the gold bracelet, the biggest WSOP score for the country came in Event #63: $500 Mini Main Event $5M GTD where India’s Suraj ‘M26GreenWood’ Mishra finished 2nd for $586,157 (~INR 4.38 Crore), which is the highest score by any Indian at the series till date as it beat Abhinav Iyer’s $565,346 that came for his historic victory in the Event #84: The Closer – $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em at the WSOP last year.
The WSOP online series has witnessed an impressive Indian participation. This is by far the 8th final table finish for India, with ‘Alex_52’ (final tabled twice), Neel Joshi, WSOP bracelet Ahbhinav Iyer, Divanshu Khurana, and Gaurav Sood already posting FT finishes at the prestigious poker festival.
Mishra narrowly missed out on the bracelet win after losing the title to Croatia’s Ivan “zufo16” Zufic who won $843,460*, his first bracelet and the WSOP Europe package. Zufic has one WSOP cash dating back to the summer of 2019. He finished 60th in Event #4: $500 NLHE – Super Turbo for $1,432.
The tournament easily crushed its guarantee by accumulating a juicy $7.22 million prize pool via a field of 15,205 entries. The top 1,600 players were paid out with a $1,356 min-cash. Some notables to finish ITM included James “mugzb” Morgan (13th for $24,774), Connor Drinan (21st, $18,817), Georgios ‘KARAKGEO’ Karakousis (42nd, $11,915), Dorel “DorelEl” Eldabach (46th for $11,915, etc.
Many Indians finished ITM including Sikander ‘Stoked_elf’ Rajwade (40th, $11,915),‘SharkNoScope’ (1,598, $1,356),Event #64 winner ‘Mandovi’ (1,593, $1,356), ‘Lorath’ (1,564, $1,356), ‘DrBravestone’ (1,480, $1,356), ‘raavan’ (1,456, $1,356), ‘0B0RRA’ (1,203, $1,540), ‘effuno99’ (1,183, $1,540), ‘tbonerzaor’ (778, $2,074), ‘dk14744’ (264, $$3,837), ‘Alex_52’ (189, $5,079), ‘sabertooth35’ (90, $7,477), etc.
Coming back to the eventual runner-up Mishra, he entered the FT as chip leader. He went on to bust Fedor Kruse (9th), Oleksii ‘Cold_play’ Kravchuk (5th), Daniel ‘GiveUp1905’ Saugspier (4th) and Daniel ‘BaccaratKing’ Neilson in (3rd place) to enter heads-up against the eventual champion Zufic.
Zufic held a 5.5 BB lead when heads up began and he took just 10 minutes to eliminate Mishra and claim the title. On the final hand, Mishra held 2c 2d, while Zufic had Ac 9s. Mishra (51,362,190 chips) moved all-in and Zufic (707,219,078 chips) called.The board ran out Ad 6d 4s 8h 5c and Zufic flopped top pair to win it to claim his first bracelet, a life-changing $843,460 and the WSOP Europe package, while Mishra banked a massive $586,157, the highest WSOP score by any Indian till date.
