One of the biggest poker brands in Asia, the Asian Poker Tour (APT) recently partnered with Natural8.com to host its first-ever online series named the APT 2020 Online Series. Running from April 29 to May 10, the marquee series offers a whopping $1.54 Million in total guarantees across 62 events, plus there are some amazing rewards like the APT Player of the Series title.
The good news is that the series is open to international players and we saw quite a few Indians in its Event #1 was the $300 Monster Stack. It was a two-day event that featured $30K GTD prizepool and drew a total of 573 entries across three starting flights and generated $160,726 prizepool.
The final day took place yesterday and saw 205 players returning to the felts. It was New Zealand’s ‘putipupu’ who went on a rush, busting the final 4 players to ship it for $28,380. It turned out to be a profitable event for Indian players. India’s Vivek Rughani aka ‘Pokerboom27’ final-tabled the event, finishing 5th for $8,192. (INR 6.20 Lac). Other Indians among 80 ITM finishers were ‘8ty4calling8’ ($1,270, 8th), ‘inonhmeansfu’ ($1,033, 19th), ‘Igtu’ ($1,033, 20th), ‘Madzoopa’ ($889, 31st).

Event #2: High Rollers – Michael Soyza – $ 18,288
The biggest tournament to conclude on the first day of the series was the $1,000 Buy-in High Rollers $30KGTD. As expected, the event did really well, pulling in total of 70 entries to generate $66,500.
After five and a half hours of play, it was Natural8 Ambassador Michael Soyza who shipped the tournament for $18,288. The accomplished pro made an incredible comeback and overcame a 6:1 chip disadvantage against his fellow Malaysian opponent ‘TT928’ (runner-up for $12,223) to win the high roller title. In the final hand of the tournament, Soyza had Ks Jc against his opponent’s 6s 6h. The flop brought Soyza a pair of kings and it sealed the win for Soyza who banked $18,288.30.

Like the opening event, Event #10 NLH Turbo also saw quite a few Indian players. India’s Goonjan Mall aka ‘gm.ind’ did really well and finished runner-up for $2,800 (~INR 2.12 Lac). He lost the title to Malaysia’s ‘Goldig’ who shipped the event for $3,821 in top prize. The $50 buy-in NLH Turbo featuring $10K GTD attracted a total of 454 entries and generated $21,224 prizepool, which got distributed among the top 71 finishers. Apart from Mall, there were some other Indians who also finished in the money and they include ‘eyeoftiger’ (17th), ‘omglukbox’ (40th), ‘BIGBADFISHY’ (66th).
