The ongoing 85-bracelet event series, the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Online concluded its sixth tournament on Monday night. Open to only to Nevada and New Jersey residents, Event #6: $600 PLO8 6-Handed, the first and the only PLO Six-Max event of the series, saw a total of 883 entries and generated an impressive $449,820 in prize pool that was eventually shared by the top 126 players.
After more than 12 hours, it was 30-year-old Texas native Nathan “surfbum” Gamble who came out on top to win $89,424 in top prize and his second career bracelet. Gamble, an army veteran (active duty 2013-16), had won his first gold bracelet in 2017 when he topped an 830-entry field to win the WSOP Event #46: $1,500 PLO8 for $223,339. A PLO specialist, he added one more PLO title to his poker resume on Monday night by taking down the sixth tournament of the ongoing series.
“I started playing [poker] when I was 13, so poker has always been a big part of me,” he said in 2017 after his first WSOP win. “I think it’s just about maintaining a balanced life. I got engaged recently and been living in Hawaii and it’s just having the ability to realize that poker isn’t everything. It’s the people around you. It’s about everywhere you end up in life that you are able to make a difference at. So, hopefully I can make a difference after this.”
Simon “bagelbites” Lam, who has cashed in five of six events so far in the series, was the first to exit final table. He was followed by “SSJTimmy” who went out in 5th place. Eliminations continued and it eventually came down between the eventual champion Gamble and ‘danish01’. The former entered heads-up with an overwhelming lead, holding a massive 10.1 Million stack over the 1.5 Million held by ‘danish01.’ The latter was able to chip up at an early stage but could not overcome the deficit.
On the final hand of the tournament, “danish01” got it in with kings and queens, while Gamble had A-10-5-3. ‘danish01’ had a stronger hand but the board ran out Jc 7d 6s 5d 4d to give Gamble a straight to win the title. “danish01” had to settle in second place for a payout of $55,282.21.
The field was full of notables and some prominent names to finish in the money included the likes of David “Twizzlers” Prociak (122nd – $899.64), Jared “darrensrabbi” Jaffee (96th – $944.62), Daniel “DNegs” Negreanu (59th – $1,304.47), Andrew “randylerch2” Kelsall (43rd – $1,754.29), Chance “BingShui” Kornuth (39th – $1,754.29), Mike “The Mouth” Matusow (37th – $1,754.29), Ali “sasukeuchiha” Imsirovic (26th – $2,518.99), Max “MaxSparrow” Pescatori (10th – $4,813.07), Jeremy “Chipchecka” Ausmus (8th – $9,096.76), and Ryan “Flipflip” Lenaghan (7th – $10,750.69).
