Poker for German poker star Fedor Holz, who is semi-retired from poker right now, has taken a backseat but he did not want to miss out on the the 2020 World Series of Poker (WSOP). On Sunday, he did exceptionally well at the series by taking down Event #79: $25,000 Heads Up for a hefty $1,077,025. The win is the second bracelet for Holz who currently sits on top of Germany All Time Money List with a whopping $32,556,377 in live tournament earnings. In 2016, Holz had grabbed headlines for winning the $111,111 buy-in High Roller for One Drop for his first gold bracelet.
Due to its high buy-in, the tournament drew a just 127-entry field that comprised of the best minds in the game. The Peopleโs Choice Event was put on hold after it reached the final four players and given the format of the tournament, it resumed yesterday with the semi finals. It took Holz only about an hour to ship it for his second career bracelet and $1,077,025 in top prizemoney!
The finals took place between Brazilโs Brunno Botteon and Fedor Holz. The Brazilian took the first lead, but it was short-lived as Holz took over the lead in just five minutes and never surrendered it back. The finals eventually came to an end within just 18 minutes with Holz shipping the title.
On the final hand, Botteon raised to 1,500 with pocket tens and Holz called with pocket fives. The flop came 8h 5d 4h and Holz checked to set off a series of re-raises. Botteon bet 2,011, Holz raised to 8,100, Botteon bet 19,680 before Holz made it 72,630. Botteon called all in. The turn 9s and the river 4s could not save Botteon from a runner-up finish as Holz won his second WSOP bracelet.
