WSOP 2021: DJ Alexander Wins His First Bracelet In Event #20: GGPoker Flip & Go

DJ Alexander came close to winning a bracelet more than four years ago but ultimately finished runner-up to Pablo Mariz in the $1,500 no-limit hold’em millionaire maker at the 2017 World Series of Poker. The Houston-based poker pro, however, made the most of his second shot at a WSOP title Monday evening as he added a six-figure score and his career-first WSOP bracelet to his resume.

Alexander bested a 1,232-entry field in the 2021 World Series of Poker Event #20: GGPoker $1,000 Flip & Go No-Limit Hold’em. The victory took his career tournament earnings to $2.56 million.

“It’s awesome,” said Alexander to WSOP live reporters after the victory. “I’ve been here before, but it feels great to get over the hump.”

It was a stacked final table with some big names but Alexander managed to come out on top against them all. The turning point for the poker pro was a big call against David Peters with just four players remaining. Peters moved all in with K-J and Alexander called with K-Q. The board brought no help for either player and Peters was out in fourth. Beck then eliminated Schwartz in third place to start heads-up play with Alexander almost even in chips. Heads-up lasted for a few hands only. Alexander won a couple of non-showdown pots to take the lead before all the chips got in the middle preflop.

Beck tabled As 4h and needed to get lucky against Alexander’s Ac Js. The board ran out Kh Qd 2h 10s 5h, giving Alexander the straight to win the title. Beck earned $111,715 for his runner-up finish.
