In its monsoon session starting today, Gujarat’s Legislative Assembly will discuss and pass GST Amendment bills relating to online real money gaming, casinos and horse racing. During the 3-day monsoon session, the assembly will discuss over eight bills, including the aforementioned one.
The session will be inaugurated by Draupadi Murmu, the Hon’ble President of India. The bills are anticipated to be presented later this week. The said bill includes changes to GST for online real money gaming, casinos, and horse racing. The bill is expected to be implemented fully on October 1.
States Set To Implement GST Amendments
Despite being one of the states resisting the adoption of the new GST rate, Goa recently adopted the GST draft ordinance to enforce 28% GST on online gaming, casinos, and horse racing.
Karnataka, one of the states that supported the increased GST rate, was unable to do so during the current session due to the internal dispute. The bills is now anticipated to be approved at the next cabinet meeting. The state has already received a provisional approval for the ordinance.
It is worth mention that the bill was passed in the 50th GST council meeting. With almost unanimous approval, the council decided to levy 28% GST on full face value of the aforementioned activities.
However, the method on which tax will be levied was decided during the 51st GST Council meeting. The council decided that tax will be be on the initial entry amount and not on each bet made.
