After their impressive performances at the recently-concluded USOP Hanoi 2023, Indian players are now making waves at the ongoing World Poker Tour (WPT) Australia 2023. Following Ankit Ahuja’s runner-up finish in Event #3: $5K 8-Max Action Clock, we now have Gaurav Sood making headlines.
Sood made his mark in Event #5: AU$1,150 Outback Survivor Bounty, which ran from September 18 to 19 and crowned a champion in Aussie player Amin Riyazati, who bested a 410-entry field to seize his maiden WPT live title and AU$49,032 in the top prize money. It was a roller-coaster ride for Riyazati at the final table where he began as a chip leader but later became the underdog. He showcased determination and grit and was able to surge back to the lead and finally ship the title.

He finally squared up against India’s Gaurav Sood in the heads-up. While the latter came very close to the victory but could not go all the way. He finished runner-up for AU$34,392, his best live score. Sharing the good news via his Instagram Stories, Sood, who is basking in his remarkable transition from online to live poker, said, “AT<A7 HU, 2nd for my best live score, GG. Grateful! We keep going.”
Two Indians, namely Gaurav Sood and Ankit Ahuja, had made Day 2 in this particular event of the ongoing WPT Australia. Fresh off his runner-up finish inEvent #3: $5K 8-Max Action Clock, Ahuja who has been in phenomenal form in recent months, also shone brightly in this event. The 2022 GPI India POY winner placed 5th for AU$11,376, marking India’s third FT finish at the ongoing WPT series.
