Kai Chang overcame a field of 643 players and won the World Poker Tour(WPT) Bay 101 Shooting Star Main event and took home a prize of $1,138,350. After four days of aggreesive gaming, the final six included Joe Nguyen, Paul Volpe, Erik Seidel, Chris Johnson and Joe Kuether.
Paul Volpe was going for back to back WPT final table cashes after his WPT LA Poker Classic final table finish last week. He finished second in the LA Poker Classic but was eliminated in third spot here. Joe Nguyen was his conqueror and in turn walked off with the second place and $666,740. Former WPT champion Erik Seidel was placed fourth and won $ 295,590. Chris Johnson was fifth and took home $208,910 while Kuether finished sixth and was richer by $162,240.
All players started the final table with deep stacks thus the first elimination of Kuether took a long time. It took Nguyen’s pocket Aces to eliminate Kuether who sat with pocket Jacks. It was in the next hand itself that Johnson exit and this hand also left Seidel short stacked. The race to the finish was hurdled at the third spot as Paul Volpe was trying his best to better his last weeks performance.
WPT tour now moves to Venice with action starting at the Casino De Venezia from March 25th-30th. Soon thereafter bWin WPT Barcelona will take off at Casino Barcelona from April 5th to 10th 2013.
