Ole Schemion (GPI#1, =) has made a history this week! The young German star has broken one of the most coveted records on the GPI, spending the 18th straight week ranked atop the GPI World Poker Rankings. Schemion outpaced Jason Mercier (GPI#8, -1) and Dan Smith (GPI#20, +2), who had each reached 17 straight weeks atop the GPI rankings in the past.
On every Thursday, GPI (Global Poker Index) releases a list of top 300 Poker tournament players. To dwell this list of top Poker performers of the World, GPI maintains a Poker Index point system and uses special formula. Through this leader-board, GPI as well announces Player of the Year.
This week Scott Seiver (GPI#2, +1) and Davidi Kitai (GPI#3, -1) switched spots in the rankings once again, each player looking forward to take over from Schemion at the top. Both the players has never attained the #1 rank in the GPI World Poker Rankings. Byron Kaverman (GPI#5, +4) made the sizable move inside the Top 10 group while all other members in the GPI Top 10 remained the same.
Furthermore, Kaverman’s recent victory at Aria High Roller VI in Las Vegas hit the system while his win at Kaverman’s Aria High Roller VII did not qualify for GPI Points as only 16 players entered the event. This week also saw Calvin Anderson (GPI#118, +57) making a biggest jump inside the Top 300, thanks to his big win in the Main Event at the latest Venetian Deepstack Extravaganza in Las Vegas. In last November, this legendary star was ranked as high as #35 in the World.
This season Argentinian pro Ivan Luca (GPI#170, +56) has been in news every now and then. Luca, who has already collected a remarkable 12 scores, made another big leap inside the World Rankings and credit goes to her recent High Roller victory at UKIPT Nottingham. She now stands to #2 in the 2015 GPI Player of the Year race.
On the contrary, a pair of American grinders Justin Young (GPI#223, -61) and Blake Bohn (GPI#225, -59) had a drop of over 50 spots in the rankings. However, Bohn may bounce back next week, as he finished 3rd at MSPT Maryland earlier this week. Sam Trickett (GPI#228, -57), former November Niner Jeremy Ausmus (GPI#157, -42) and Joni Jouhkimainen (GPI#219, 31) are a few other big name pros who dropped in the standings this week.
