Jonathan Bredin won the 2013 ANZPT Queenstown yesterday at the SkyCity Casino after entering the final table in chip lead. It was a moment of great triumph for Bredin since he suffers from cerebral palsy and uses a special ipad and the help of a carer to communicate his decisions in a game of poker. This was the first major poker tournament that the young man from Melbourne won defeating a field of 126 elite poker players.
Bredin has previously only entered in smaller poker tournaments in his home town and this is the first time he has appeared on the world stage and proved his game can overcome his handicap. He got a good pay day of $93,500 and said he aimed to buy a car to suit his medical condition with his money. This win also means that he will be seen more frequently in the ANZPT and APPT poker tournaments. Bredin won the final poker game with black kings as his starting poker hand and later also showed the same black kings tattooed on his arm.
Daniel Laidlew had a topsy-turvy heads up battle with Bredin and at some stages looked like the former might win. But Laidlew finished second to encash $59,550. Chiu Yeung Lee finished third while Raj Ramakrishnan was fourth.
