Each week, the Global Poker Index(GPI) releases a list of the top 300 tournament poker players in the world using a formula that takes a player’s results over six half-year periods. The GPI also ranks the top performers of the year over two six-month periods. This week the GPI Top 300 sees long time leader Marvin Rettenmaier slip down and Ole Schemion replace him. But in the bargain, Schemion had to give up the top spot in the GPI Player of the Year(POY) to Mike Watson.
In the GPI 300 rankings, there was a lot of shuffling in the top 10 spots as a new leader in the form of the German Schemion emerged while Rettenmaier had to settle for second spot. Watson and Steve O Dwyer gained two positions each and now prevail at 3rd and 4rd spots. Despite good showings in the WSOP Europe, Daniel Negreanu fell 5 spots to settle for the 8th spot. Noah Schwartz who won his first WSOP Bracelet at the WSOP Europe climbed 19 spots to occupy the 6th spot.
In the GPI POY Rankings, Shannon Shorr riding on his good showing in the WSOP Europe entered the top 10 to be at No.6. Other than that there was little change in the GPI POY rankings.
