The ultimate dream of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) 2017 begins today amidst the deluxe environs of Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in poker’s meccas Las Vegas. The 48th edition of WSOP starting today promises to be bigger than ever with 8 brand new tournaments, 74 bracelets and of course the increased television coverage.
The world’s biggest tournament series brings varied flavours with various old and new events in different formats and variants. The series will culminate with the final table of its signature $10,000 Main Event, which will now be played down to a winner on July 22. As per the reports, about 500 poker tables will be laid out across more than 100,000 square-feet space to welcome and accommodate the poker players from all across the world.
A Look at Past WSOP Performances of Top Indian Players
The WSOP has been attracting several players from India. Every year several pros and renowned players from the country head to Las Vegas to fulfill their ultimate dream of competing with some of the world’s best poker players. Last year was a good time for Indian players, as several players managed to cash out at WSOP events. The ace player Raghav Bansal cashed $69K at the series with various other deep runs. The champion of DOPT 15K PLO event, Aditya Sushant also had a good run in the Main Event, as he finished 216th for $42,285. Adda52 Team Pro- Amit Jain ended the series with a 14th place finish in the Little One Drop for $27,714. Antony Pereira won a Rio DeepStack event for $4,606. Other star players- Kunal Patni, Shashank Jain & Akash Malik made inroads in side events.
This year, WSOP series going to be more special as the largest Indian contingent is headed to Las Vegas. Given the large number of India’s star players participating in the series, hopes of a WSOP bracelet are high this time around. Aditya Agarwal should again be a hot favourite to win a bracelet for the country. Aditya Agarwal has been taking part in the series for more than 10 years now and has already cashed five times in the WSOP Main Event, even making a 71st place finish for $96,445 in a 6,420 entries field back in 2015. Amit Jain is also one of the stronger contenders for the bracelet. He is in good form these days. Recently, he won the Main Event for his team Mumbai Anchors in Poker Sports League series. He played a key role to win 2nd place for his team in PSL. Not just Main Event, he made several deep runs across various events in PSL. Raghav Bansal is another solid consistent player who can bring the WSOP bracelet back home. He made several deep runs at previous WSOP events.
Aditya Sushant is another hot pick for the bracelet. He is in good touch. Recently, he won DOPT 15K PLO and finished runner-up DPT 100K High Roller event of the DOPT at Deltin Royale, Goa. He is one of the most feared- players on Indian poker circuit. Delhi lad Akash Malik is almost a regular at WSOP. His experience across various WSOP events makes him a strong contender for the bracelet. Dhaval Mudgal is yet another player India can bank upon for the bracelet. Vidwath Shetty is also one of favourites for the bracelet. He won the DPT 100K High Roller recently and looks in a great form as of now.
